FIELD NOTES #1
A weekly collection of things worth remembering
Growing up, I was never far away from a notebook. I’d spend entire days in front of the TV, half watching, but mostly filling page after page. For a while, these were filled with drawings of elaborate outfits for models, convinced I’d grow up to be a fashion designer. Then dresses gave way to long scrawling lines that often rhymed, as I tried my hand at writing lyrics. Felt-tip pens became colouring pencils, colouring pencils became watercolours, and eventually things found their way into a scrapbook, covered with stickers, which, if you know me, are still an obsession to this day.
As an adult, I don’t spend as much time in that imaginative world. Life’s chores getting in the way. That, and mindless doom scrolling. So, in an attempt to capture more of the beautiful things in life, I’ve started carrying a notebook around with me (something those of you who may have read my Italy travel diaries will know well).
These Field Notes are a place to share a few of the things I scribble down each week. Things like the mistakes I’ve made, what I’ve rustled up for dinner, a photograph I love, this week’s obsession, and whatever else makes me feel creative. It’ll be a little less polished than my essays. More like a torn page from my notebook.
I hope you enjoy it.
